Academic Background:

M.S., Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland
B.S., Mechanical Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University
Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator, National Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation Training Program
EnglishXL Certification Course

Mr. Hrobak joined CED in 2004 as a Mechanical Engineer.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County where his thesis research focused on the mechanical evaluation of Fibrous Monolithic Composites (FMCs) and the damage evolution associated with both tensile and cyclic loading.

Mr. Hrobak’s thesis described the failure analysis of the FMC material along with the various manufacturing modifications used to manipulate mechanical behavior.  His researched focused on material evaluation and experimental results coupled with modeling for the failure prediction of the material.  His credentials include, a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator from the National Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation Training Program in Sarasota, Florida; and most recently obtained the certification as an XL Tribometrist.

Mr. Hrobak has experience in performing accident reconstructions, fire cause and origin determination, slip and fall investigation, analysis of industrial machinery, material failure investigations, products liability, water intrusion evaluations, and strength of materials determination.  He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering, National Fire Protection Association and the National Association of Fire Investigators.

Mr. Hrobak has passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination to obtain his license as a Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland.  Prior to joining CED, Mr. Hrobak worked as a mechanical engineer with Borg Warner Automotive Morse Tec in New York where he worked in the powdered metal division.
