The Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) physically layers through the debris to uncover the fire’s point of origin. 

The Mechanical engineer (P.E.) may conduct a flow test of gas control valves or other mechanical devices to confirm it performs to the manufacturer’s specifications. 

The Electrical engineer (P.E.) analyzes the electrical system, which is in the immediate origin area. 

The Chemical engineer (P.E.) evaluates the chemical combustive nature of the materials of concern such as accelerants, explosives and flammability. 

The Materials Science engineer (Ph.D.) evaluates the possible failure of gas piping or quality of the material itself. OSHA – Workplace Safety
