Biography/Background

Andy Morejon, Ph.D. is one of CED’s Biomechanical Engineers. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Florida International University. He continued his education and earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Miami. His dissertation focused on the characterization of mechanical and transport properties of the knee meniscus fibrocartilage for the development of tissue-engineered implants.

Throughout his college years, he was heavily involved with orthopedic biomechanics research at the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory. Here he designed experiments, performed biomechanical tests, and authored scientific manuscripts. In addition to his main work in the mechanics and transport properties of the meniscus, he participated in full-body biomechanics studies involving gait analysis, sports biomechanics, and occupational biomechanics. Dr. Morejon’s research was extensive and led to six peer-reviewed journal publications in his three years as a Ph.D. student. His research has been presented at more than seven national engineering conferences.

While at the University of Miami, Andy was also a teaching assistant for System Dynamics and Automatic Control courses, lecturing and mentoring senior-level engineering students. His potential was recognized by the Science Mentorship and Diversity Program in which he received mentorship from the leadership of top medical device companies. Dr. Morejon currently serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Biomechanical Engineering.
